To achieve success in the global biosimilar market, originators have certain short-term options available, such as patent litigation. However, their strategies should focus on sustainable, long-term options such as development of biobetters or incorporating biosimilars as complements to existing products. New entrants to the biosimilar market should expect a steep learning curve and be ready to compete. Key to the reception of future biosimilars are the attitudes of physicians, patients, and payers, but "other players [must also] contribute to this debate," asserts Daniel Casey of the University of Oxford.
